Project Manager

Maintain ownership and accountability of project objectives and deliverables with input and direction from Senior Project Managers and/or Directors. The candidate will build and maintain excellent rapport with all project stakeholders and actively participate in business development opportunities. They will be expected to mentor Staff and Field level personnel and maintain active communication with all levels of staff within the company. The candidate will have the opportunity to actively participate in the growth and expansion of EMC’s business operations. Registration as a Licensed Professional Geologist (LPG), Professional Engineer (PE), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) is preferred. The position’s Primary Objective will be achieved by meeting or exceeding all criteria in the Job Description and Requirements.

Manage project staff, documents, and budgets to ensure efficient implementation of project objectives. Tasks will include preparation or review of reports; quality control of report tables, figures, and attachments; evaluation and development of conceptual site models; development of project recommendations to Sr. Project Manager or Director; review and preparation of monthly invoices; and maintenance of client relations.

  • Report directly to Regional Director;

  • Work directly with Senior Project Managers, Regional Director, Director of Real Estate Services, and/or other appropriate levels of management on project-related tasks and responsibilities;

  • Effectively implement all assigned tasks;

  • Manage all administrative, budgetary, and technical aspects of assigned projects and tasks;

  • Maintain profitability for all assigned projects and tasks;

  • Communicate project status regularly with clients, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders, as necessary;

  • Manage projects and tasks in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, and guidance associated with local state regulators. Experience in both Kentucky and Indiana is strongly preferred.

  • Complete tasks associated with due diligence projects, including, but not limited to: Phase I ESAs, Phase II ESAs, Limited Site Investigations, and other due diligence evaluations, including a working knowledge of asbestos, lead, and other building sciences.

  • Complete tasks associated with remedial projects;
    Schedule and direct staff, field, and support personnel, as required;

  • Prepare and ensure implementation of the Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) and protocols for assigned projects and work tasks;

  • Mentor, train, and manage staff, field, and support personnel on tasks and procedures;

  • Develop and prepare project scopes of work and cost proposals;

  • Actively manage field activities and ensure that work is conducted in accordance with applicable work scopes and quality control standards;

  • Prepare and/or review documents and deliverables associated with assigned projects in accordance with the EMC Style Guide and effectively implement applicable document review and other quality assurance policies & procedures;

  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable regulations, statutes, and non-rule policy guidance for State and Federal regulatory programs;

  • Perform field activities or field oversight, as necessary; and

  • Provide timely feedback to Regional Director regarding the performance of project team members.

  • Advanced knowledge in a relevant area of science, geology, and/or engineering customarily gained through attendance and successful completion of a course of study at an accredited college/university;

  • 5+ years of progressive environmental consulting-related experience;

  • Use of discretion and professional judgment;

  • Maintain 40-Hour HAZWOPER training with 8-Hour refresher;

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive to various job sites';

  • Travel to job sites and overnight stays may be required.

Staff Professional

Maintain and uphold, and perform in a manner consistent with, EMC’s Core Values. Surpass Primary Objective of Field Professional position and mentor Field Professionals. Demonstrate ability to successfully complete all project components on projects or project phases with mid-range budgets, including work scope and cost estimating field implementation, data evaluation and reporting, and administrative project management skills.  Support Project Teams by appropriately completing all assigned tasks.  Progress toward registration as a Licensed Professional Geologist (LPG), Professional Engineer (PE), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). The Primary Objective of this position will be achieved by meeting or exceeding all criteria set forth below in the Job Description, Goals, and Requirements.

  • Report directly to Regional Director;

  • Work with Directors, Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and members of the Technical Team for project-related responsibilities;

  • Actively implement all assigned tasks and communicate task progress with project teams;

  • Learn, implement, and master all standard Staff Professional activities in preparation for promotion to Project Manager / Project Professional level;

  • Perform assigned field activities, including site investigations, field sampling, field assessment activities, and management of field teams, under the direction of the Project Team;

  • Document and prepare forms related to all field activities;

  • Implement the site’s Health and Safety Plan (HASP) and ensure the health and safety of all workers while in the field;

  • Manage field activities as directed by the Project Team, and ensure that work is conducted in accordance with applicable work scopes, standard operating procedures, and quality control standards;

  • Compile, manage, and assess field data and other project information;

  • Learning how to manage the administrative, budgetary, and technical aspects of assigned tasks;

  • Schedule and direct Field Professionals and support personnel as required;

  • Mentor and train Field Professionals and support personnel on specifically assigned project tasks and company procedures;

  • Communicate with and schedule subcontractors and vendors and complete other tasks required to implement field activities;

  • Develop work scopes and cost estimate;

  • Prepare technical documents and reports associated with assigned projects in accordance with the EMC Style Guide and effectively implement the Document Review Policy;

  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable regulations, statutes, and non-rule policy guidance for State and Federal regulatory programs;

  • Provide feedback to Project Managers and Directors regarding Field Professional performance;

  • Meet or exceed weekly Utilization Potential of 38 hrs per week;

  • Advanced knowledge in a relevant area of science, geology, and/or engineering is customarily gained through attendance and successful completion of a course of study at an accredited college/university;

  • 2+ years of field-based environmental consulting experience;

FIELD Professional

Effectively and efficiently complete all field program activities and associated administrative functions and adequately prepare basic written technical documents. Become knowledgeable and proficient in all applicable field techniques and acquire an understanding of industry objectives to manage site activities and implement project objectives. Demonstration of proficiency will lead to opportunities to take on more challenging field assignments, provide technical report support, develop components of conceptual site models, and the opportunity for promotion to Sr. Field Professional, Staff Professional, and then Project Manager or Project Professional.  The potential for registration as a Licensed Professional Geologist (LPG), Professional Engineer (PE), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) is preferential.  The position’s Primary Objective will be achieved by meeting or exceeding all criteria set forth below in the Job Description and Requirements.

Conduct and manage field monitoring and collection of soil, groundwater, and vapor samples, including boring investigations, soil type classification, well installation, and vapor port installation. Evaluate subsurface soil and groundwater data in the field to provide the project team with environmental and geologic interpretation of Site conditions. Generate potentiometric and isocontour maps and cross-section interpretations. Prepare fieldwork plans and preliminary report content related to site investigations and assessments. Potential opportunities to assist with remedial system installation and maintenance.

  • Report directly to Staff Professionals, Project Managers, and Senior level staff, as appropriate;

  • Work directly with Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, and other members of the Technical Group to understand and meet project-related responsibilities;

  • Meet prescribed goals for Field Professional;

  • Manage the administrative, budgetary, and technical aspects of assigned tasks;

  • Learn, implement, and master all standard-level activities in preparation for promotion to Sr. Field Professional;

  • Train less experienced Field personnel regarding proper techniques and procedures for field tasks;

  • Communicate with and schedule subcontractors and vendors and complete other tasks required to implement field activities;

  • Conduct assigned site investigation field sampling and assessment activities and manage onsite field teams;

  • Document and prepare forms related to all field activities in accordance with proper standard operating procedures;

  • Implement the site’s Health and Safety Plan (HASP), and ensure the health and safety of all workers while in the field;

  • Compile and manage field data and other project information;

  • Prepare written documents, including work scopes, investigation reports, and others as assigned, in accordance with the EMC Style Guide;

  • Maintain company vehicles and equipment, and notify management of required repairs and/or other needs; and

  • Keep the equipment room clean and well organized.

  • Advanced knowledge in a relevant area of science, geology, and/or engineering is customarily gained through attendance and successful completion of a course of study at an accredited college/university.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive to various job sites.

  • Travel to job sites and overnight stays are required.

  • Requires the ability to, at times, work long hours (i.e., 10+ /day; 40+ hrs./week) while in the field, in addition to required time in the office.

  • The schedule will primarily be Monday through Friday; however, weekend work may be available at times for motivated individuals.

  • Field events will, at times, be conducted in severe weather conditions (e.g., heat/humidity, cold, rain, snow). Health and Safety precautions will be considered at all times, especially during extreme weather conditions.

  • Requires occasional lifting and carrying of heavy equipment, up to approximately 60 pounds.

  • Field sampling and other field activities must be completed in accordance with standard operating procedures and within reasonable time frames.
